Richard Bartlett
Richard has been at CISB as a grade 5 teacher since 2019. Prior to joining us at CISB, he had past experience working as a Kindergarten teacher and as an English teacher for students from the age of 6 through to adults. Richard's fundamental belief is that every person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Maintaining this philosophy, Richard works tirelessly to support each and every student in his class and provide them with what they need to grow and develop. Not only does this translate into differentiating academic lessons but also with him providing social-emotional support to his students as needed. In addition to supporting each of his students based on their individual needs, Richard also puts his teaching philosophy into practice through the work he does to support the other teachers on his team. He is a strong mentor who maintains an open-door approach for other teachers at all times. Not only does he make it a point to check in regularly with them, but he is known to offer ideas and suggestions the other grade 5 teachers can use in their own classrooms, model lessons for them to see, and help with unit and lesson planning. Richard never turns a teacher away who comes looking for help – if he can’t help himself he right away seeks someone else who can lend a helping hand.
Richard is always open to feedback regarding his practice and he is continuously looking for ways to personally grow and develop. He recognizes the value of collaboration and the importance of solving problems jointly as team members. During the team meetings, Richard leads with other teachers, he ensures all voices can be heard around the table and that all ideas are respected. For new teachers, this helps to make them feel valued and important contributors to the team!
CISB's motto is Together is Better. Richard exemplifies this daily in each and every one of his actions both as a teacher to his Grade 5 students and as a mentor to other teachers on his team!
